Goonj - a NGO who collects waste and distributes old clothes

‘GOONJ’s mission is to make clothing a matter of concern.
All their products are made from the last strands and shreds of the cloth, paper and other household material they get after sorting out the wearable, usable stuff. Thw products are made out of torn cloth/jeans, audio tapes etc which people discard in droves. They believe that just by re-using our old clothes the problem of clothing for the poor can be solved to a very large extent
By providing a small piece of clean cloth to a village woman, to be used as a sanitary napkin, we can prevent a multitude of hygiene problems.
In the last few years Goonj.. has annually been initiating ‘RAHAT-FLOODS’ to collect relief material for the lakhs of victims in Assam, Bihar & West Bengal during floods.

Center Location for dropping your old unused things

Important guidelines:-

Only the centers mentioned in this page are authorised to accept material for GOONJ..
A CALL (before going) is mandatory at the centre, to check their availability and for directions to avoid any inconvenience.
Also please avoid odd hours to call or drop the material.
NO LOOSE material will be accepted.
Kindly pack the material in polybags, bedsheets, cartons etc.
At many centres people empty their suitcases and in some cases even demand their polythenes back.
NO DIRTY, DAMAGED, WET MATERIAL will be accepted.
These centers are open only for individuals and small quantities.
Please don’t leave big quantities of material at the collection centers since these are homes of people and its causes them inconvenience .


Institutions like school, colleges etc. and corporates, are requested to send material directly to the GOONJ offices only.
Receipt against the cash/ material contribution will be given at GOONJ offices only.

Vazhkai - NGO

Vazhai was founded by a group of First Generation College Graduates in April 2005 , who wanted to pay back to the society in terms of education, mentoring and guidance to children in remotest parts of Tamilnadu.

You can be a Mentor and a member of "Vazhkai" group

A Mentor is one who is Able to spend 12 days (6 weekends in a year) with the children in workshops.He stays in constant touch with the children through phone calls and letters.

A Supporter is one who stands behind in all of our activities.
Help us in preparing materials and designing activities for the workshops.
Generate and/or contribute funds. Material purchase. Maintain website.Event coordination (for workshops)
